Holy Thursday – Mass of the Lord’s Supper

This night is about an eternity of self-giving.  When Jesus asked his disciples, “Do you realize what I have done for you?” he was talking about much more than washing feet.  He was talking about how God’s glory is manifested: caring for others, paying attention to others, giving oneself to others.  What glory is there in self-giving?  The glory lies in making visible God’s love.  Tonight Jesus instituted the Eucharist, food for our journey, and remaining with us with His Body and Blood.  He also wants us to practice charity by a sign of washing the feet, as in life be servant to one another.  Holy Thursday is the beginning of three part of the Triduum.  We do not end the mass but continue following Jesus to the garden Gethsemani in staying awake and prayer before the hour of his betrayal entering suffering.

Mass of the Lord’s Supper begins at 7PM in Church with ritual washing of the feet, reception of new Holy Oils, celebration of the Eucharist, and then adoration with Jesus till midnight.  Plan with your family to come and stay with Jesus.  The hours are from 9PM till 11:45PM at the designated place in the Faith Formation Building.   A 7-day candle at the Adoration can take home to continuing praying with Jesus with a donation.
